Got A Blemish? Make It Disappear Overnight!
We've all had those mornings when you wake up with a giant pimple, front and center on our face. The worst part is that is always seems to happen during the most inconvenient times, like before a big presentation, or a first date. Yikes! So what can you do to make those pesky little bumps disappear asap you ask? Check out my tips below, which will give you an arsenal of defense against those annoying breakouts. The best part about this acne banishing methods is that they are all natural, and use items that you most likely already have in your kitchen or medicine cabinets.
If your blemish is particularly large and inflamed, you should start out with the icing method. Start by taking an ice cube and wrap it in a thin cloth or paper towel. Hold the ice on the affected area for a few minutes, and repeat the process a couple of times. You'll notice the redness go down and the blemish start to shrink right away!
Why it works
The cold from the ice helps to reduce the inflammation in the blemish, which will help to bring down the swelling and the redness. As a bonus, if your blemish is painful, the ice also works to relieve and sooth some of the discomfort you may be experiencing.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is a natural alternative to harsh blemish treatments. The oil is extremely potent, and should be used with care. Many people find that pure, undiluted tea tree oil can be too harsh on the skin, causing redness, itching, and irritation. It's best to start out with a spot test on the inside of your arm, observing the skins reaction. If needed, dilute the oil with equal parts of water before spot treating on blemishes. Repeat this process morning and night on affected areas. Don't feel like making your own diluted formula? Try out my favorite ready-to-use treatment here, or if you prefer to get pure tea tree oil find it here.
Why it works
Tea tree oil works to fight acne through anti-bacterial properties. It works to disinfect the blemish, while also soothing the inflammation. Tea tree oil also has the ability to work its way down into pores, through any blockage, helping to disinfect and clear up breakouts, and even white heads.
The antibacterial properties in this sweet and sticky treatment can be attributed to its acne fighting powers. Not only does honey work to fight the bacterial that causes blemishes, but it also works as an anti-inflammatory, which reduces the swelling and redness that comes along with a breakout. Unlike most treatments for blemishes, honey is actually moisturizing on the skin and doesn't cause dryness and flaking. Apply honey all over the face as a soothing mask, or use it as a spot treatment. Leave the honey on for at least an hour, or use it as an overnight remedy. I like to use this raw, organic honey.
Why it works
Honey contains antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and works as an antibiotic, all contributing to its blemish fighting powers. Because its moisturizing, you don't have to worry about harsh side effects or excessive drying.
You may only associate this plant with soothing overly-sunbathed skin, but aloe vera has some surprising uses, including healing acne. One thing that's especially great about it is that it not only works to fight your current breakouts, but also helps to heal any existing acne scaring. Yay! Just like with tea tree oil, make sure to test out the aloe vera on the inside of your arm before applying to the face. You can apply pure aloe vera in the morning and at night on clean skin, and before moisturizing. I like this formula.
Why it works
Aloe vera helps to remove access oil from the skin, which can cause blemishes. It has antibacterial properties, and it contains glyco-proteins, which help to reduce inflammation and redness. It also contains hormones that not only help to kill acne, but also work to rebuild new skin and heal scarring.
