Healing My Acne: Update!

Healing My Acne: Update!

As many of you know, I have be struggling with cystic acne for the last 10 years and I've tried just about everything to heal it. I went to the doctor 4 months ago and was prescribed a topical anti-bacterial called Erythromycin, which I have been using morning and night since I received it. Almost immediately I noticed a big difference in my skin. After a few days of application, I saw most of my acne shrinking, and by the end of the first week, most of it was gone. Now, 4 months later, I have clearer skin than I've had since I was a young teenager. My seemingly incurable acne is finally going away, and my marks and scaring is beginning to heal.

A few weeks ago I went to see my esthetician, who noticed immediately the improvement in my skin. She said that she can tell my skin is going through its healing process and should be looking really healthy soon. I was so happy to hear confirmation from someone else that what I am doing is working! Even though I still get the occasional breakout here and there, my skin overall is going in the right direction.

How I Use It

I am continuing my normal skincare regimen in addition to my medication, that way I will achieve the best results possible. After I cleanse and pat dry my skin in the morning, I apply a thin layer of my medicine with a cotton ball, and allow it to dry before continuing with moisturizer. At nighttime, I follow the same process, by cleansing my face, applying any mask or treatment that I might be doing, than applying my medicine, followed by avocado oil as moisturizer. Right now, I am using my medicine in place of a toner, but I am considering adding a toner back into my routine, but I will slowly introduce it if I do.

Obviously I am not a doctor or a professional in the skincare field, and I am only sharing what works for me, but if you are struggling with acne and don't want to take oral medications, I would recommend talking to your doctor about topical Erythromycin. What I really love about it is that it doesn't leave my skin with dry and flaky patches like some other topical medications have done before. As long as I am using a good moisturizer, my skin stays really soft and I don't experience any drying.
