How I Stay Fit While Traveling

I absolutely love working out. It makes me feel amazing, and keeps my body fit and healthy. When I travel, it is important to me that I maintain my physical fitness, even when I'm busy, or don't have access to the gym. I put together simple workouts for myself that I can do from any hotel room and doesn't require any special equipment to complete. These workouts are perfect for me, since I am not always certain there will be a gym located at my hotel. As of right now, I am currently in India, and don't have easy access to a gym, so I have been following a routine that I can do from my room. If you'd like to learn the workout I do when traveling, keep on reading!

Cardio

For cardio, I will either explore the city I am visiting, or go outside for a run if I feel comfortable in the neighborhood I am staying. On my current trip, I have been doing so much walking around for sight seeing that I am considering that my cardio. Of course when I am back at home I like to hit it hard when doing cardio, but I allow myself a little slack when on vacation.

Weights

Of course I can't pack dumbbells in my luggage when I travel, so I like to do exercises that only require my body weight to complete. I usually do a mixture of the below exercises 20 times each, and then I repeat them all one to two more times.

Push-ups
Diamond Push-ups
Arm Circles
Squats
Lunges
Bridges
One-Leg Deadlift
Donkey Kick
Fire Hydrant
Jump Squats/Lunges
Crunches
Leg Drops
Burpees
Plank
Bicycles
Superman

Isometrics 

Isometric exercises, if you aren't familiar, are exercises that involve tightening and releasing specific muscles to work them out. These exercises are particularly good to do on long plane rides or car trips. I like to do isometric exercises for my butt especially, as they work really well! There are some great examples of these exercises online, but all you really need to do is concentrate on squeezing and releasing a certain muscle group for 3-10 seconds, and repeating about 20 times. 

Yoga

I love practicing yoga while traveling. It helps me to relax and de-stress from all of the commotion of the trip. If I have extra room in my luggage, I like to bring my mat with me so I can practice wherever I am staying. 

As you can see, it can be very easy to fit simple workouts into your schedule when traveling, no matter where you are staying. As long as you are committed to maintaining your health and fitness regimen, your workouts can be done every day while you're away from home. I love to maintain my fitness while I am traveling, that way I don't have to regain strength and stamina when I return home and get back on my normal schedule.
