My Current Foundation Routine

Foundation Routine

Hey my loves! Today I wanted to share with you how I currently do my foundation routine. As much as I love testing out new beauty products, there are always some staples that find their way into my everyday routine.

Having a smooth and flawless canvas is essential to any makeup look, so it is very important to have an amazing foundation routine. Once your skin looks flawless, the possibilities are endless with what new looks you can create! If you're interested in finding out how I create my base for all my makeup looks, keep on reading.

Prep

First things first, I like to prep my skin for the foundation. In my opinion, having a great skincare routine is essential to having great makeup. Without the right skincare, even the most talented makeup artists will struggle to create a flawless look. If you aren't sure about what you should be doing for your skin, I recommend meeting with a dermatologist or an esthetician, who can recommend quality products and a routine for you to follow. Before applying any makeup, I like to start with clean skin, and apply a moisturizer to keep my skin hydrated.

Prime

After completing my skincare, I like to work a small amount of Tarte Clean Slate Poreless Primer into my skin. I apply it in a gently patting motion to ensure that it smooths out all of my pores. I like to allow the primer to sit on my skin for a minute or so before applying my foundation, that way it fully absorbs.

Foundation

With a moist Beauty Blender, I start dabbing on a few pumps of NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation onto my entire face. I'll add another pump if I need to cover up any trouble areas. I make sure to work the foundation down my neck so there are no awkward lines around my jawline. The key smooth application is to blend and press the foundation into the skin so it looks natural.

Color Correct

Since if have the darkest under eye circles ever, it's very important that I color correct them. The orange hue of the color corrector helps to cancel out any of the dark circle, to keep my under eyes looking bright and awake. I like to use a burnt orange eye shadow from Make Up For Ever in Auburn, which sits really well underneath my concealer and doesn't move throughout the day.

Concealer

After applying the foundation to my face, I like to conceal under my eyes to cover up the orange corrector and make me look normal again! I love using MAC Pro Longwear Concealer under my eyes because it gives me really full coverage, and also lasts all day without any creasing. I apply the concealer in a triangle-like shape, extending towards my nose, and up towards my temples.

Set

I like to set my makeup with Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in Translucent. This powder looks invisible on my skin, while keeping my makeup in place all day. I  have been using this powder for years, and for a good reason! I start with my under eyes, using my Beauty Blender to make sure that the area is smooth and free of creases before setting. Then I work my way around the rest of my face using a large fluffy brush in a patting motion. If I'm experiencing any discoloration in my skin or a breakout, I'll use some MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation for extra coverage after setting my foundation. I only do this step in certain areas of my face to avoid looking cakey or unnatural.

After all this, I will continue with my contour and highlighting routine. Let me know in the comments if you'd like a tutorial on this as well.
