My Nighttime Routine
After a long and stressful day, there is nothing I look forward to more than being able to wash my makeup off, and get nice and clean before bed. Nighttime is a great time to pamper the skin, not only by removing the dirt and makeup from the day, but to also apply treatments and serums that renew and revive the skin. Our skin goes through a healing process every night while we are sleeping, so having a great skincare routine at night is key to achieving and maintaining a beautiful complexion. This has to be my absolute favorite step! I love removing my makeup after a long day, it feels so refreshing! There are a few different ways I like to remove my makeup, and I alternate between them depending on what I am in the mood to do. I either use these wipes to gently remove all of my makeup, or wash my skin with this cleanser to get everything off. If I was wearing heavy eye makeup that day, I might take a cotton ball along with some eye makeup remover to get any additional makeup residue off.
After I finish removing all my makeup, I like to cleanse my face to ensure that all the dirt and residual makeup is off of my skin before I sleep. I don't want to leave anything on my skin that might clog my pores during the night. Recently I have been using Fresh Rose Cleansing Foam, which smells absolutely amazing, and leaves my skin feelings super soft and hydrated. It works really well on sensitive skin and doesn't cause any irritation or redness on my face. After cleansing, I will pat my skin dry before moving on to the next step.
I love to exfoliate at night, which makes me feel like I really clean deep into my pores and get everything out before sleeping. I usually exfoliate my face 3-4 times a week, but this all depends on how my skin is behaving. If I have a lot of clogged pores or my skin is just looking dull, I will always exfoliate after I cleanse. I have been using my St. Ives Nourished and Smooth Oatmeal Scrub + Mask, which is very gentle and safe to use daily. I like to massage the scrub into my skin and allow it to sit for a few minutes.
While I'm letting the scrub sit on my sink, I like to start working on my teeth to save time and multitask. After flossing, I use my Oral-B Electric Toothbrush, which not only times the brushing for me, but also syncs up to my phone to keep track of my progress! I have noticed a big improvement in my oral health ever since I have been using this brush, and my dentist has even made comments about how healthy my teeth and gums have been lately, yay!
After washing off the oatmeal scrub and patting my skin dry, I have recently been incorporating a nightly mask treatment in my routine. I tried out Secret in-a-Tube facial mask as part of my routine, and I am really enjoying the results I have seen so far. The mask helps with wrinkles, large pores, acne prone skin, and even under eye circles/bags! I like it because the ingredients are natural and paraben free. I massage the mask all over my face, including my under eyes, and leave it on for about 10 minutes. I rinse it off with luke warm water and pat my face dry. Since starting to use it, I have noticed that my skin looks a lot less red than normal, and also feels extremely soft. After getting my skin nice and clean, I like to use a toner to close up my pores. I'll either use witch hazel, or my acne medication if I am having any breakouts. I use a cotton ball and a small amount of toner to rub all over my face, and allow it to dry.
After my toner has fully dried on my skin (I usually give it about 10 minutes), I apply an oil to my skin as a moisturizer. I alternate between a few different facial oils, but some of my favorites are jojoba oil and avocado oil. Lastly, I rub some Vaseline onto my eyebrows and eyelashes to moisturize them and help to grow faster. I am thinking about replacing the Vaseline with caster oil, which is supposed to promote hair growth. Has anyone ever tried using this oil on their eyebrows? After my face is fully prepped for a good nights sleep, I like to gently brush through my hair, and place it in a loose braid. I like to keep my hair tied back while I sleep, which helps to reduce tangles, keep frizz down, and also gives my hair extra body when I take it out in the morning.
At this point, I am ready to get in my pajamas and crawl into bed! I like to get into bed early most nights, which gives me a little bit of time to check my phone and complete any necessary tasks before bed. I like to watch movies in bed most nights (probably not the best habit), it really helps me to unwind and de-stress from the busy day. I also like to write in a journal that I keep in my nightstand, where I keep track of tasks that need to be completed each day and checklists. I'll usually review that day and see what I did, and what I wasn't able to get around to. I like to reflect on my day and see what went well and what could have gone better. This is a really great way for me to prepare for sleep, because it helps me to clear my mind of stress and thoughts about the day I had. It also gives me time away from bright screens before sleep, which helps my mind to know that it can start to get tired and prepare for bed. Most nights, I try to go to sleep by 11:00 pm, but this doesn't always happen. I like going to bed somewhat early because I feel like it makes the next day so much more productive and I have the energy I need to get things done.
