Starting My Invisalign Journey
A few months ago, I made the decision to get Invisalign and finally have the smile I've always wanted. This was something I've been putting off for years, for one reason or another, but with my wedding coming up, I wanted to feel confident to smile in all my pictures. I want to share my journey with all of you, which can hopefully be of help to anyone looking into starting this process themselves. Once my treatment is done, I will be sharing the results with you as well!
To start, I set up an appointment with my orthodontist for a consultation to make sure I was eligible for treatment. Consultations are normally free, so it's worth it to at least make an appointment and find out how long your treatment will be and how much it will cost. The consultation was quick and easy, lasting no more than 30 minutes. The doctor examined my mouth, checking to see if I had a normal bite and if my teeth would work well with Invisalign. After a thorough exam, the doctor let me know that I did qualify and my teeth would respond really well to treatment.
I started my impressions (a molding of my teeth, which would be used to create the Invisalign trays) that very day. This process took around 15-20 minutes, waiting for the mold to harden on my teeth. After this, my appointment was complete, and I was ready to schedule my next visit.
The next time I went in, I took pictures and x-rays before starting the orthodontic process. There was a series of (very unflattering) pictures, showing my teeth from various angles. Next was the x-rays, which started with the typical dental x-rays, and then an x-ray that went around my entire head (the same kind they use if you're getting your wisdom teeth removed). This process took about 20 minutes to complete. Now all that was left to do was wait for my first Invisalign trays to arrive!
The shipment of my trays took a lot longer than I expected. My first appointment was towards the end of September and by the time the order arrived at the orthodontist's office, it was nearing the end of November. I was disappointed with the long waiting period, since I want my teeth to be straight in time for my wedding. I was told it would take about 3-6 weeks to arrive, and it was closer to 7-8. I'm assuming that this wasn't a normal occurrence, and for most people, they will receive their trays in a timely manner.
I am so happy to have finally started my treatment, and will soon be sharing with you my experience of wearing the trays, how they feel, and how it has affected my life. Stay tuned!
If you've had Invisalign or are currently going through treatment, I'd love to hear about your experience, share with me in the comments below!
