Staying Motivated To Reach Your Goals

If you are chasing after some big goals, there will be times when you feel like throwing in the towel and calling it quits. I know for myself, some days I just find it so hard to motivate myself to sit down and write a blog post. I don't let a bad day get in the way of reaching my goals, and I don't see it as a set back either, I simply follow the tips below to get myself out of the funk, or at least be productive until I snap out of it. Remember, even the most successful people have moments of doubt and difficulties in staying upbeat to get their work done. Next time you are feeling out of sorts, check out this list and see if you can get your motivation back.

List the reasons you want to achieve your goals.

Sometimes we create goals that we want to achieve, but we lose focus on our original motivation for wanting to make them happen. Try to think back to the time when you first dreamed up your goal, and remember what your reasons were for wanting to achieve it. Simply taking a step back and revisiting this can help you remember why it is so important to you, and give you an extra boost of motivation. Take a note pad and start writing down all of the reasons why you want to achieve your goals. The physical act of writing down the reasons behind your goals will help you to stay focused and on track.

Break down your goals into smaller, more achievable ones.

When it comes to setting goals, sometimes they seem to big to even imagine succeeding. It can be intimidating and overwhelming to look at everything you want to achieve, unless you have a clear idea of how this will happen. Look over your goals, and start listing out all of the small tasks that need to be completed in order to get what you want. When you focus on one small tasks at a time, even the biggest goals can seem very attainable. Sometimes a lack of motivation can simply be caused by the feeling of being overwhelmed, and once that is taken away, your motivation will come right back.

Understand that failures will happen, people who succeed are those that keep going.

If you set out to achieve something, understand that there will be times that you will fail. It may be small failures and it may even be a really big failure, but just recognize that even the most successful people out there have failed many times. It can be tempting to want to give up when we aren't seeing the results we want, but this is the time that you have to decide how important your goals are to you, and if you want to keep pushing towards them. There is no magic secret that separates those that are successful from those that aren't, other than that the successful ones keep pushing, even when things get hard and it seems hopeless. Sometimes failure just mean that it's time to revisit your approach and try something different to get the results that you want.

Share your goals with friends.

When your motivation is low, finding a friend who is a good listener and knows you well can be a big help. Sharing your goals out loud, and talking about why you are so passionate about them can be the spark that you need. By talking to someone else about your hopes and dreams, and how you want to achieve them, you make yourself accountable for them by making them public.

When you truly don't feel motivated, take time off.

There are times when I am just not feeling motivated when it comes to my blog, so instead of forcing myself to write, I'll find other activities I can do that don't involve writing, but still help out with my overall goal. Sometimes, taking time off can be exactly what you need to get your motivation back. Of course, this doesn't mean that any time you don't want to work you don't have to, but trust your judgement and give yourself a break when you truly need it.
