Winter Proof Your Skin Plus Giveaway!
Winter is quickly approaching, and that means it's time to rethink your skincare routine to make sure that you are using the right products for the cold weather. The harsh winter cold can wreck havoc on unprepared skin. Not only is the weather colder in the winter months, but it is also a lot drier, which can be a very bad combination for a glowing complexion. Add in the winds and you have a recipe for dry, cracked, and flaky skin.
Unsightly skin doesn't have to be in your future, as long as you take the right preventative steps, you can have gorgeous, glowing skin, all winter long. To ensure that your skin is well hydrated, you'll need to consider all of the products that are currently in your normal routine, and make sure that they won't strip too much natural oil from your skin and dry it out.
Protect your skin from the rays
Even in the winter months, protection from the sun is crucial. In fact, the winter rays can actually be even harsher than the summer sun, leaving more potential for skin damage and premature again. UVA rays can actually come through the clouds, so even on gloomy days you need to make sure you are protected. I like wearing lightweight sunscreens under my makeup that won't make my foundation slide around, like Secret in-a-Tube Organic Zinc Oxide Sunscreen.
Moisturize while you cleanse
If you are struggling to keep your skin soft and moisturized during the winter, make sure your cleanser isn't the culprit. Cleansing oils and milks are very hydrating, and take away dirt and makeup, without over-drying the skin. One to try is Juice Beauty Cleansing Organic Milk, which uses all natural fruit ingredients to cleanse and moisturize the skin.
Treatments that lock in moisture
Try adding a serum to your routine that not only works to promote the appearance and feel of your skin, but also helps to hydrate it. Look for a formula that has natural oils to help seal in the hydration before even using a moisturizer. I recently started using Secret in-a-Tube Organic Anti-Aging Facial Oil Serum, which is full of organic oils and extracts. It helps to add an extra layer of moisture, while fighting signs of aging and minimizing the appearance of scars.
Up your moisturizer
It's important to switch out your moisturizer in the winter, especially if you are experiencing dry, dull, or flaking skin. A good rule of thumb is to move up one level of moisture, from whatever you use during the rest of the year. For example, if you are using a lightweight gel, try switching to a lotion, and if you are using a lotion, try switching to a cream, and if you are using a cream, switch to a formula with a heavier oil content. Some moisturizers to try: Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation, Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief, and Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Face Butter.
